Best Artificial Grass Whittlesey

So which is the best artificial grass in Peterborough? We're sure most companies will claim that theirs is and sometimes simply by looking at similar grade artificial grasses it isn't easy to tell one from another and therefore which one is the best artificial grass for you. However, there are a couple of things to consider. Firstly what may be the best grass for one person may not be the artificial turf for you. Clearly the amount you are able to spend can play its part in influencing which is the best synthetic grass possible for your budget but you may have more specific requirements. For example a dog owner would not necessarily be best of with one of the longest softest grasses as this may not be the best option for picking up after your pooch has done his business. You may simply be wanting a section of fake grass to practice your putting and therefore a shorter sports astro turf may be the best for how you are going to use your fake grass. Artificial grass has, and continues to improve as does the membranes fitted underneath our grasses so please speak to our technical experts to discuss what you want to get out of your artificial turf and we will try to help advice on what may be the best artificial grass for you.

Artificial Grass Installers Whittlesey

Our installers are some of the most highly trained and diligent artificial grass installers in Whittlesey and are experienced in fitting your chosen artificial turf to replace a number of existing surfaces or on occasion to fit onto an existing surface.

By far and away the most common artificial grass installation is as a replacement for a natural grass lawn. The installation process follows a very similar process from one garden to another with the main variation being the edging i.e. where is your artificial grass going to butt up to? For gardens this can be a path or patio on one side, against a wall on another and typically if an edge is going to be running alongside a flower bed sleeper will be used to create a nice neat edge which will keep the soil from your flower be from spilling over onto your nice green artificial turf.

When it comes to installing larger astro turf pitches and 4G football pitches these will often be right up to fencing, typically wooden or metal fencing which provide a containing edge to the sports ground which is normally fully astro turfed.

Artificial Grass Companies Whittlesey

There will clearly be a number of artificial grass companies in Whittlesey, some of which will specialise in artificial grass and many other who offer is as part of there wider service such as landscape gardeners. As a result you will find quite a broad range of price points, selections of artificial grass and associated accessories and skill sets when it comes to the actual installation.

We specialise in artificial grass so there are no compromises in the quality of the products we use and the installation process. We make no apologies for that as we are passionate about providing a level of service which will mean you will have an installation of artificial turf which will last way beyond many of our competitors as well as enjoying what you have more due to the superior quality.

Al of our grasses are from the best manufacturers in Europe, we never use Chinese imports as many are not made and finished to the same level such as including UV protection. We also use the best membranes which we have helped design to ensure that, if you are a dog owner, you do not get subjected to Dog wee smells, which is something some artificial grass owners will negatively comment. This scenario would only occur with poor fitting of inferior membranes and excessive use of sand on top of the artificial grass which will lead to the wee not draining away and potentially reacting with other substances.

Artificial Grass for Dogs Whittlesey

When pet owners look for artificial grass for dogs in Whittlesey they are mainly investigating it to see if artificial turf compared to real grass because it is easier to clean up spills and stains. At the same time if they have seen their dog occasionally, or even frequently, chewing on grass there may be concerns over it's ingestible safety.

Most artificial grasses are non-toxic - our certainly are but there may be some grasses out there which may contain harmful chemicals or use backing materials which may cause an issue should your pet managed to get to this level.

The reality is that which to us the artificial grass will look almost identical to the real stuff animals have other senses which they will instinctively use to alert them that this is not a tasty alternative to real grass. So whilst it may look the same it certainly won't smell the same and, if they do have a nibble, won't taste the same.

Artificial Grass for Pets in Whittlesey

When people search for artificial grass for pets in Whittlesey, what they really should type in is for 'pet owners' - you will be the ones making the decision to go for fake grass and generally it will be for your benefit as the pet owner rather than for the benefit of your pet.

The biggest driver towards artificial grass is having a dog. Dog owners and especially owners of several dogs dealing with clearing up on the lawn and then dealing with muddy paws when re-entering the house can simply get too much in the winter months when the grass is consistently wet. Unfortunately as most dog owners will testify, their lawn is unlikely to be the most grassy as their favourite pet or pets will churn up the ground either by running around, grabbing toys off the lawn or in some cases digging. So when this ground gets wet your pets paws will pick up mud from the lawn. If you have a long patio before reaching your back door this may result in less mud on paws but still if the soon reach light carpets or sofas this mud can start transferring itself to areas all round the home.

The other aspect to consider is your own footwear. As many dog owners will want to pick up any poos quite quickly, to prevent your dog doesn't accidentally stand in it traipsing across a muddy lawn is not ideal and sometimes can be a little hard to sport if you don't have a lush green background for your dogs business to stand out from.

Virtually all of these issues and challenges can be eradicated with an artificial lawn.

Best Artificial Grass for Dogs

So, we often get asked which is the best artificial grass for dogs? Well whilst there isn't necessarily a single grass which is the best we will point our which grasses may not be the best mainly from a practicality perspective. As most people will want a grass which is very realistic in the way it looks most people will not want a short pile grass for their garden. Shorter pile is generally associated with sports pitches and what most people will refer to as astroturf so longer pile will be the most popular choice for a lawn replacement. Lush grasses 45mm and over are generally not advised for dog owners as they can be a little harder to clean especially if your pets deposit is not firm so the most popular is a 35mm or 38mm pile height which is actually our best seller for both dog and non dog owners.

Whilst we can make some recommendations of pet friendly artificial turf, generally regarding pile height, we do get asked about pet urine smells. We are aware that some artificial grass owners have had issues with this and may wrongly assume that all artificial grasses will have this problem. In actual fact if you have an dog pee smell and an artificial grass lawn this will most likely be an issue with installation rather than an issue with the grass chosen.

Pet Friendly Artificial Turf

All artificial grasses should have drainage holes so that and fluid such as rain or pet pee can simply run down into the ground the same way it would with natural grass. However, if the pee cannot run down and out then you may have a problem with smell as the urine will be sitting on top of the synthetic grass.

How can this happen? The most common occurrence for this is due to the drainage holes becoming blocked. or the layer underneath the grass is not porous enough for the urine to drain away.

So, how do drainage holes get blocked? From an installation perspective may installers still use grasses where they finish off the installation by brushing in a final layer of sand. Potentially this sand can accumulate and plug up holes. You'll not be surprised to know that our artificial grasses do not require a sand infill so there is no chance this can happen due to installation. The other way holes could become blocked is if dirt such as leaves and other spills or dirt are left to build up and clump blocking up the drainage holes. So as part of minimal maintenance for artificial grass it is definitely worth brushing up dirt and leaves - not least, so you can continue to enjoy a vivid green lawn all year round.

The other issues may be that if your installer is more of a generalist rather than specialist artificial grass installer they may simply use some left over building membrane which is non porous and therefore does not allow urine or rain water to drain away quickly. If this is the case and your lawn is on a slope this may lead to an accumulation of water and wee at the bottom of the slope which could lead to a noticeable smell if this area does not drain well.

By selecting our team you will get a quality installation and non-infill grass which is the best artificial grass for pets especially dogs.

Artificial Grass for Schools

When it comes to astro turf for schools we have lots of experience in this area -  so much so we have even worked to obtain an Education Authority approved lease plan to help schools get  on the 'artificial grass ladder'. Whether the installation is for a small pay area or for full sports pitches we have done them all. So if you are looking for artificial grass for your school in Whittlesey be sure to get in touch. We can provide a plain English overview of the factors you may need to consider as part of our consultancy and survey service.

The other important factor is the grasses we use and the sub-bases we can install, ensuring the best overall installation for the synthetic grass' intended use. For sports pitches our 4G astroturf is ideal, and with astro turf variations for hockey, football and multi-sports we will be able to install the perfect playing surface both inside and out. There really isn't any reason to delay upgrading your facilities which will be a fantastic addition to your school for both events involving staff, pupils and parents. Please get in touch to discuss your project.

Artificial Grass for Play Areas

Artificial grass for play areas in Whittlesey is not exclusive to nurseries or schools. Many other businesses will allocate part of their facility to provide a designated play area, or in some cases there business is to provide a play area! We have installed play areas for bars, cafe's and in public facilities. Sometimes access and getting the artificial grass and other materials to its designated location has been a challenge but we've never been beaten!

Whatever you scenario we have the experience and expertise to help you select the ideal play area for your organisation, so that you have both a visually appealing facility but importantly, one that is as safe as possible too.

Artificial grass is a great option for play areas compared to the main alternatives which are often either rubber mulch or wood chippings.

Whilst wood chippings we the main alternative over 10 years ago this was probably a quick and cheap response option as an alternative to any existing concrete that was the main surface or a play area. However, it's not a popular long term choice for a number of reasons. Firstly, the wood will need replacing every few years. It gets damp and rots and become smelly and a great environment for insects. Also, even when small fences are built to surround wood chip areas the wood chippings will still find their way out creating and eye sore and also requiring the wood chippings to be topped up on a fairly regular bases to ensure that there is enough depth of them to cushion a fall.

As an alternative rubber mulch was promoted as an alternative to play areas and is a good alternative but is an expensive option and generally does not provide the best drainage surface which can start to limit the amount of time that area can be used following a bout of rain.

Artificial grass looks good and can come in colours other than green but importantly installed well provides both a safe playing surface  and one which can be used much of the year round with very little maintenance and the maintenance which is done is very quick and easy to do.

Artificial grass for Nurseries

More artificial grass for nurseries are popping up in Whittlesey and it is easy to see why. The beauty about artificial grass is that it can be installed around irregular shapes and obstacles and if jointed well look like one continuous playing surface. It is relatively easy to install one surface but have different levels of shock absorbing foam laid underneath the fake grass layer to cater for different types of play. Additional foam would be required if installed under climbing frames in nurseries to ensure compliance with Head Impact Criteria (HIC). For most nurseries this will typically be 20mm and this may be an additional 10mm more than the result of the area, however, this can be kept flat throughout by adjusting the sub-base level during installation, keeping everything neat flat and even.

Astro turf for Sports

For secondary schools and academies they will be looking for astroturf sports pitches to replace existing football, or hockey pitches and tennis courts. Mostly this will be outside but sometimes where more than one indoor sports hall exists then we can also cater for indoor installations too.

Sine sports pitched are going to be much larger areas than a typical garden lawn the costs for installing these will be much higher too. However, they are seen as a very valuable asset by many schools. Not only do they provide an opportunity for more and often better quality practise and matches - especially for hockey and tennis but they can enable events to be hosted on them and in many cases provide a facility which can be hired out and thereby become a revenue generator which can bring in additional funding to the school.

It has been this drier which lead to us developing our special operating lease plan, which means that large initial capital funding is no longer required and therefore the lease plan suddenly makes the astro turf sports pitch a viable new facility for the school. All state schools are pre-approved so please get in touch to find out more.

Artificial Grass Cost

Whilst many people will want to switch to artificial grass in Whittlesey clearly a big factor will be the fake grass cost. looking at costs can be a minefield if you're not sure what you are looking for or know what questions to ask otherwise you might not get which you wanted for the amount you spent.

These days you can even find an end of isle basket with some rolls of artificial grass at a DIY, garden centre or even a carpet shop. Whilst this is a response to the popularity of artificial grass to some degree this has cheapened what a proper artificial grass installation involves.

There is a massive spread of grass costs when comparing a m2 rate and whilst some grasses can look very fake it does leave some people wondering why there is such a spread of costs for artificial grass.

If you are simply looking to get some cheap artificial grass just to lay over a small section in your garden as a quick cosmetic band aid to cover up a muddy patch or to use as a base for plant pots then unfortunately we're not for you. Our focus is on quality and this is an area we are not willing to compromise on.

Artificial Grass Installation Cost

Whilst we provide a supply only service for quality artificial grass our main focus is on providing a full artificial grass supply and installation service and the installation costs will vary depending on the grass you choose, the total area to be installed and if there are any more irregular aspects to consider such as slopes and curves. These factors may impact costs since a number of people will take the opportunity of installing an new artificial grass lawn to flatten their lawn and reduce or even remove the existing slope. To flatten a slop will require removing more earth from the high side or adding additional aggregate to the lower side or a combination of the two. This is all possible and standard work for us but clearly this will take additional time and effort which would need to be reflected in the costs.

Since most garden lawn artificial grass installations will be in the region of £2,500-£5000 it is common to get a few quotes to establish an average price, look at a few different grass types and also get some feeling of comfort with your potential installation company. Prices between different artificial grass companies will naturally vary but if there is a wide spread there may be a couple of reasons for this.

If one quote is extremely high the company may be in a position where they already have a full order book for a few months and are are not really interested in winning your work - unless it is extremely profitable. As a result they may artificially inflate your price. On the other hand a company whose price seems artificially low are unlikely to be artificial grass specialist and are general outdoor handymen, with space to fill, who think they know what they are doing and know where to pick up some reasonable artificial grass locally.

Whilst most people can watch a YouTube video to get a rough idea of how to install artificial grass it doesn't mean they will be conscientious in their installation.

We are a specialist artificial grass installation company, we use the best European artificial grass treated with UV protection, we use specially treated acid neutralising weed membranes and our jointing is bonded down not tacked or stapled. We also ensure that the depth of our sub base is at least 100mm  to ensure proper drainage.

There are a number of areas where you can shave costs on the install of a new artificial turf lawn so be sure to ask what guarantee is offered on their installation and grass and then decide which provide the best value for money quote!

Cost of Artificial Grass Compared to Real Grass

As we've outlines a new quality artificial grass lawn is likely to cost a few thousand pounds. Clearly this will be a considered purchase however, the costs of artificial grass compared to real grass will vary from person to person depending on what they do or don't factor in when looking at costs.

When looking at cost comparisons rather than trying to compare one summer of looking after a real lawn to installing a fake lawn is never going to stack up. Maintaining a real lawn, even if outsourced and done by a professional is never going to reach to cost of a new installation. However, when you look at lifetime costs the argument for installing a synthetic lawn is much more compelling.

Consider that a good artificial lawn should last you at least 15 years with minimal ongoing costs associated with maintaining it how does that compare to 15 years of professional lawn maintenance? The break even point for this is likely to only be a few years, however professional grass maintenance is not that common place so looking at what you may spend each year looking after a lawn yourself what will you spend on the following:

- lawn patch repair, lawn seed, hiring a scarifier and aerator, moss & weed killer and ongoing watering to keep you lawn looking lush and green throughout the summer.

Now the other factor which most people will not consider as a cost is their own time. Whilst applying your own hourly pay rate could skew things greatly taking a figure at around the minimum wage of around £10 an hour for applying the above and then add the mowing! How many hours at £10 an hour over 15 years would your time cost?

As you can see looking at lifetime costs provide a very, very strong case for artificial grass being much cheaper than real grass!

Cost of Astro Turf

When looking at the cost of astro turf this will again vary depending on the size and type of installation. So until we have conducted a survey we will never attempt to give too much of an indicative price as this could very quite a lot once we get to site.

However, is a similar fashion to domestic calculations when considering total lifetime costs or in the case for many artificial pitch installation this can we changed to artificial grass revenues the case can be quite compelling. By taking out an operating finance lease plan you can potentially start paying for your artificial grass from month one and in fact making profit thereby having a net surplus cost of your astroturf. If that is a realise scenario then you should start making plans for that installation today - please get in touch!

Best Artificial Grass

Whilst some people will simply want the cheapest artificial grass most people will want the best artificial grass for their garden, business or sports facility.

We get asked about this a lot and rather than completely avoid giving one product as the answer we will help narrow this down for you as the most important thing to remember is that most artificial grass companies will provide a range of synthetic grasses to choose from.

Whilst for some this will be to provide a wider range of choses to increase the potential budget spend available for other companies such as ours our range will more typically provide the best artificial grass for a particular use in a particular location. What may be the best fake grass for a pet owner with three children will not be the best option for a pub looking to install artificial grass on top of their existing outdoor terrace.

CALL US

Best Type of Artificial Grass

Once we consult and establish how and who will be the main users of your fake grass then we can narrow down the best options from our range based on suitability. However, you may have the best type of artificial grass for you but unless it ends up being properly installed it won't matter which grass you selected. In fact if you have a poor installation you may as well have gone for the cheapest grass option.

As we've already established deciding to install a new synthetic grass turf in most areas is a considered purchase and therefore one where you don't want to be suffering buyers remorse and then spending more money on getting things put right.

Regardless of which or our artificial grasses you choose you will get a quality installation - remember we provide a 10 year guarantee so we need to! Why would you want to spend a few thousand pounds to have a lawn which develops puddles at the slightest bit of rain or emits dog urine smells when you want to lay down on it in the summer.

Our artificial grass is UV protected so great in hot weather as it will resist fading and this coating will also help keep the grass cooler than other cheaper alternatives which if you have a south facing garden may mean that your pets, children or even yourself will struggle to walk over it in your bare feet in hot summer days.

Best Artificial Turf

If you are looking for a new or replacement astroturf pitch, court or play area and are wanting the best astroturf in Whittlesey then we should be in a position to deliver that for you. As we hopefully already established our expertise and specialism in artificial grass installations will mean that you will get a quality installation and by using some of the best 4G grass available in Europe you get the best combination for a fantastic 4G pitch.

Switching to 4G is the best astroturf in Whittlesey - you can say goodbye to arranging for your groundsman to order more sand or rubber crumbs to the spread across your pitch. Which is often followed by your customers complaining about how slippery the surface is one it's been done. You can also say goodbye to clearing up your changing rooms of sand or little black rubber bits which get into every nook and cranny - 4G grass is the best artificial turf option for sports pitches.

Choosing Fake Grass

When it comes to choosing fake grass over real grass there are quite a number of benefits that artificial grass has over real grass.

Whilst we will always provide a very strong argument for synthetic grass (well what else would you expect we are an artificial grass company after all!) some points will have more relevance and resonance with some people than others.

In more recent times there have been some individuals and organisations who may seem have certain hidden agendas for no promoting anything which isn't real and even using an environmental angle for this.

Let's be clear, we are not replacing rain forests with fake grass we are mostly replacing garden lawns which provide limited benefits to nature and insects unless they are left to completely grow wild which the vat majority of home owners have never done nor want. However, by giving homeowners or gardeners more time to invest in their garden rather than simply trying to maintain a green lawn they are planting, growing and looking after much more in their gardens around their lawns and as a result creating a much more diverse eco environment.

CALL US

Benefits of Artificial Grass

One of the main benefits of artificial grass will be the hassle an headaches associated mostly by dog owners, which have do deal with their dogs coming back into the house after visiting their lawn. Not only will it save time both trying to clean their dogs paws there and then but also cleaning after them if mud ends up in other areas of the house.

Again for pet owners their existing natural lawn will most likely have lumps, bumps, divots and yellow patches caused by the acid in their dogs urine almost killing natural grass. The visual transformation of an completely lush green artificial lawn can immediately become an uplifting experience. This vibrant look will also continue throughout the year. In the autumn you will not have to look at upon a lawn which is a little long and messy and in the winter you will not have to look at a beige lawn when there has been a hosepipe ban preventing you from being able to maintain your lawn.

Artificial Grass compared to Real Grass

When people are trying to decide to make the switch to artificial grass the initial motivation will be a time saving one. Whether this is to remove the need to mow the lawn, or clean up after you pet returns into the house on a rainy day some people may have some reservations based on the fact that they may feel that removing their natural grass lawn to have it replaced by a synthetic one is not the best environmental choice.

However, when you factor in what happens with most people's real lawns, the environmental view is not necessarily the most pretty of pictures. There is no need to spray insecticides, weed killers and other chemicals on your lawn to try to keep it looking good all year round. Regardless of what type of mower you have, unless you have a pet goat or a push mower, you will be using some form of energy to cut your grass which all adds up.

Recycled plastic is used for our grasses and our manufacturer continues to lead the way to ensure longevity of it's products. Cheaper grasses which don't last as long and need replacing more often are not as good in terms of total lifetime environmental impact so fit the best to start with and reap long term benefits from a variety of perspectives.

Artificial Grass Fitters Whittlesey

Understanding your complete design aspiration is important for our artificial grass fitters in Whittlesey not least of all so we can cost and ensure that all materials you desire are readily available. Whist it is fairly rare that we get an unusual request it can and does happen. Mostly the request will be regarding the edging of your new synthetic lawn. This can be compared to a picture in a gallery - whilst we will provide the paints and the canvas onto which a painting will go before it is publicly displayed it will be put in a frame. In the same way the artificial grass can be compared to the painting and the edging or boarders can be seen as the equivalent of the frame. Mostly the frame, or boarders are already in existence such as a wall or path, but for more open edges the decision to fit artificial grass can sometimes be an excuse to go all in. Fitting new multi-tiered raised beds, rockeries or even up to the edge of a new pond, whatever it is we need to ensure we have a tight fit along all the edges of the grass.

for those clients who have decking running artificial grass up to the decking does provide a striking contrast from the lush green of your new fake lawn to your wooden decking - especially if it has been well maintained, your new synthetic grass does provide a good platform from which to showcase your decking.

For those of you who have let your decking maintenance slip and as a result have a deck surface which has moss and algae and you really can' be bothered to keep on top of things our artificial grass fitters can install some fake grass on top of your decking. This will freshen up the aesthetics and importantly provide a must less slippery and dangerous surface to walk on when you have slightly damp conditions. The one caveat to this action is that it a layer of fake grass will shorten the life of your wooden decking as the moisture will not be able to evaporate at the same rate. This action should be taken if your decking is starting to get towards the end of its life and it may only be a couple of years before you had planned to replace the whole lot anyway. However, until that time comes you will have a much safer and better looking deck topping. Since there is much less preparation work involved in adding artificial grass to your decking this is relatively inexpensive and may well be worth considering if you are likely to have excess grass left from you lawn replacement anyway.

Ground Preparation before laying artificial turf

When installing artificial grass as a replacement to a lawn or gravelled area the process is pretty much the same and is the most common installation. Once we have agreed with you what your design, edging and area requirements are we can set about starting the ground preparation before laying the artificial turf. It is the ground preparation sometime referred to as the sub base that is a very important part to provide a good quality fitting of artificial grass and is the one where some contractors can try and reduce costs by cutting corners here and there.

Clearly the first thing which need to be done is remove the existing surface layer - so whether this is existing turf or gravel it needs to be removed. The important part of removal is to go far down enough so that when the right amount of aggregate sub base is laid followed by sand membrane and the grass itself the finished turf is at the same height as when we started. This is based on assuming that is where you want the height of your synthetic grass to finish. For some customers the decision to install artificial grass has also gone hand in hand with making some additional changes to the height or slope of the ground. All of this is possible and can be covered in the planning and preparation process. At Artificial Grass Whittlesey we want to ensure you get the final result you are after so please discuss your landscape aspirations with us as we are confident our artificial grass installation expertise will be able to cater for almost any design scenario you may have.

Even if additional ground heights need to be raised in certain areas and lowered in others there should be a minimum of 10cm of ground clearance to your grass level. Less than that is a sure sight that your installer is looking to save material costs.

Once we have cleared to 10cm we will then spread out the aggregate sub-base to a level of around 4cm this can be a crushed limestone or similar small aggregate and this is important in creating a firm base but one which allows drainage. The important part is compacting the aggregate again this is an area where some installer can take shortcuts by not compacting down, but compacting the ground with a proper compacting machine will allow you to create a solid base - essentially the foundations for you artificial lawn. The next step will be to add layer o sand about 1cm again this needs to be compacted and made a smooth as possible as this is what the grass will follow. Once we are happy with the level of the sand we will place down the weed membrane. As the name suggests this prevents weeds coming up but still allows water to pass through. As the width of the membrane is generally small than grass rolls it will need to be overlapped. Again is it important that the overlap is generous enough to ensure a gap does not arise during the grass roll out , so we would recommend 20-30cm overlap. This is an especially important aspect in dealing with dog wee. Our membrane is treated with alkaline, so it is especially good as allowing urine to pass through whilst neutralising it which is one area some dog owners have been concerned about. A good membrane and a properly laid sub-base will prevent any dog wee odours.

Fake grass installation Whittlesey

The final parts is where things start to look more like a lawn again. When we carry our a fake grass installation in Whittlesey we make sure we have the rolls ready in place before any unrolling takes place. It does take time to get a perfectly smooth sand base and it is important that the weed membrane is not dislodged when rolling our the synthetic grass. This is where we double check the orientation so that we know that if there are to be any joints that they will be in the agreed orientation. Where we do have joints once the first roll has been rolled out we then roll out the second roll so that they are exactly adjacent to one another. We will then part the joint and position our jointing tape underneath the two rolls and then apply the adhesive to the bonding tape, and work our way along the seam to ensure a 'seamless' joint. Jointing is another important area which can differentiate one installer from another. We take great pride in using the best materials for this to get a virtually invisible joint.

So now that the bulk of the artificial grass is down we need to work on tidying up - 'finishing'. This is where we will fix the grass in the appropriate spots in the main area and importantly to the edges. Depending on what the edging is, will determine the best type of fixing to use. Where the grass butts up to a wall or existing path a wooden board, acting as a boarder to the sub-base would have been put down which provides a clean crisp edge onto which the grass can be fixed to normally with small screws specially designed for artificial grass fixing. This is the most common method and can be done even underneath a new sleeper boarder which will act a a barrier to the soil on the other side.

Certain weather conditions, such as heavy rain when fitting the sub-base or jointing will negatively effect the quality of the install as the excess water will cause movement of the sand, or prevent good adhesion where glue is involved. As already mentioned when we install we guarantee our installations for 10 years. We know what can effect the quality of the install and we don't make compromises or take short cuts so on occasion the timeframe to complete an install can slip due to weather conditions but we will let you know if this ends up being the case and when completion is likely based on forecasts.

Finishing off your artificial grass installation

Once we have completed the installation we will invite you  to inspect the work. Unlike many other contractors we don't take deposits we will only ask for payment one installation is complete and you are completely happy with our service. We also appreciate that for some contractors simply installing artificial grass is where they see the start and stop of their work, we however do not. As well as inspecting what we have done as artificial grass fitters we also invite you to inspect the whole of your garden to ensure that the level of tidiness is also to your satisfaction.

As part of this process we will also discuss the off cuts which have been left for you to decide if you want to use them elsewhere in your garden. We have seen a number of customers use these off-cuts as bases underneath plan pots on decking or patio areas, or even flat walls as they provide a much cleaner neater finish than than the existing base. If you do not want these we will take them all away with us and dispose of appropriately. Leaving you to admire your new artificial grass lawn.

We will also provide a quick reminder of the best way to look after your artificial grass - although this part doesn't take too long, as maintenance is minimal. Just a few tips on the best way to get leaves or birds dropping from your artificial lawn.

Looking for artificial grass in Whittlesey?

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do you only fit artificial grass?

No - we can just supply artificial grass which is one of the best around and the other appropriate fittings and membrane. However, our specialty is the supply and fit of artificial grass. Our extensive experience and fully trained installation team mean that we are one of only a few companies that will provide a full 10-year guarantee on materials and fitting.

Our artificial grass will not be the cheapest as we import ours from Europe, not China. We have an excellent relationship with the manufacturer and have worked together over the years to enhance their products.

Sometimes it can be very tempting to buy materials yourself and then try to find a tradesperson to fit your product but what you think you have saved in the material by buying direct will often be offset by tradespeople adding to the installation costs to compensate for the margin they may have lost through not supplying the materials, which they would probably get at trade rates, which would end up being similar to the price you paid anyway. The other negative is that with buying your own materials hardly and the tradesperson will be willing to give a guarantee on the material they are not familiar with.

  • What is the best artificial grass?

We've already touched up that the best artificial grass will be dependent on what it will be used for. The most extreme example to give would be choosing the best grass for your back garden which  will have no dogs and few people walking on it compared to a 4G astroturf football pitch which will have many people running around , jumping, stopping turning and giving it a good work over. For the garden a lush 45mm pile height artificial grass would be ideal but if you put this on a football pitch you would have complaints from the players that the ball won't roll and it's heavy underfoot.

Whilst we pride ourselves on providing the best like for like artificial grass over our competitors but the best fake grass for you will be the one that meets your budget and importantly one which is suitable for its intended purpose.

For many businesses, we have installed artificial grass in selected outdoor areas including decking. These will typically have many people walking and standing on it for long periods so a short grass will be the best artificial grass in this instance as a longer grass will look messier once people have left the establishment and you are left with trodden down synthetic grass. Whilst this can be brushed back up this simply adds to the maintenance time and longer grass will also take longer to clean and hoover up from compared to a shorter turf. Simply arrange a call with our experts covering Peterborough letting them know what you want your artificial grass for and we can provide you with a shortlist of suitable options.

  • What's the cost of artificial grass installation in Whittlesey?

For a domestic installation for a quick rough guide around £80 per m2 will be for a lawn replacement with the most popular and best all-round artificial grass top layer.

Cost can vary based on the shape of the lawn area as narrow strips could lead to larger amounts of waste material. Most artificial grasses come in 4 or 5m rolls so sections that say 6 or 7 meters wide will need another section cut and laid adjacent to the initial roll. Sometimes this can work out well with very little wasted but for very irregular shapes there can be more waste. However, any waste material is yours - if you want us to take it away we are happy to do so and will be responsible for getting as much recycled but many customers decide to use the offcuts to provide additional pot plant bases or use sections to simply lay over small areas which may be prone to becoming muddy in certain times of the year such as a thin strip of artificial grass stepping stones to get to a composter hidden away at the back of the garden.

  • Will artificial grass go on top of decking?

Yes, it will. In fact, this is happening more and more both in commercial as well as domestic environments. It is quite well known that wooden decking can get quite slippery when wet and whilst the rain can put most people off from going outside when the rain stops walking out onto a slippery surface - especially if you are holding drinks or food put people off utilising the decking space.

It is normally fairly straightforward to put a layer of artificial grass on top of the decking. Depending on personal preference this can simply be installed on top and the sides of the decking can remain exposed wood, or the artificial grass can continue to be pinned down the side too. Generally, no additional layers need adding below the grass and it fixes directly onto the wooden deck panels. This will provide a much safer non-slip surface but doing this is likely to lead to a shortening of your timber decking as moisture will be retained for longer on top and into the wood as the synthetic grass, layer will slow the evaporation process. Also unless you are going to lift up the grass to reapply timber decking treatments it will mean that the wood is being exposed to worse conditions with less protection.

We are also seeing artificial grass is laid on top of concrete areas or other hard surfaces to provide either a non-slip surface or an improved aesthetic or both.

  • Will artificial grass fade over time?

This will depend on the artificial grass you have chosen.

Our grasses have been treated with a UV protective coat so that they will not fade. This is a good example of the difference between cheap artificial grass and quality artificial grass comes into play. You cannot see the UV coating so unless you ask about whether or not your grass has such a coating it is unlikely that an installer whose grass does not have this protectino will highlight this.

  • What's the best way to edge off artificial grass?

Generally, the edge will already be in place, especially in a garden installation. Often a synthetic lawn will replace the existing lawn which may already have a wall along one side and a path or patio along another. The most popular edging we install will be where the current lawn runs up to a flower bed. The existing edge may be a very short fence or a small trench has been dug to edge off the lawn to provide a secure fit and ensure no edge is exposed which could be used to pull up the grass we normally will run sleepers in place of where the fence or trench was. Depending on the dimensions available to you in your garden you may want a thick sleeper for an aesthetic reason or you may want a much thinner one so to maintain as much flower bed space as possible. These are aspects we can discuss with you to find the solution which you're most happy with.

This will depend on your specific fitting. For garden installations wooden sleepers are very popular as an edge but sometimes along one edge there will be an existing wall and at another end it can be fitted so that it butts right updo an existing patio or paved pathway.

The aesthetic finish is a very personal choice so we tend to let you let us know what you would like and if we know it is practical to do we will happliy provide you with your choice of edge finish.

Whittlesey Artificial Grass

Artificial Grass Peterborough were very helpful in explaining almost everything about artificial grass in a way which made perfect sense. They offered the most comprehensive guaranteed and we are very pleased with the installation.

Felicity K

We've been used to having artificial grass for a number of years so it was one of the first things we wanted to sort when we moved in. As dog owners we'd never want to have normal grass again. The guys from Artificial Grass Peterborough cracked on and the lawn we now have is much better than the one we left at our old house.

John E

We found quite a variation in quotes but felt that what we wanted was being listened to the most and we weren't being pushed down one particular grass type. We are ecstatic with the end results and looking forward to getting rid of our mower!
